My friends cat has an infection of the upper respiratory tract and it does not tell me that under our pets to play together. She said that it is contagious, but only contagious among dogs or cats?

URI in dogs and cats are caused by different viruses. I do not think that is easily transmissible between species.
Nearly all infections of the upper respiratory tract are species specific which means it does not extend to cats, dogs or cats than dogs. Not impossible but very unlikely.
It is only contagious among cats.
